Matthew Thornton - Market Analyst
Matthew launched Akantha Originations in 2026 after recognising the disconnect between smaller, innovative OEMs and infrastructure developers who are deploying billions of EUR into energy, digital, transport and grid infrastructure (all the while seeking to generate maximum returns). The bridge between smaller OEMs and these stewards of capital is now being built.
Akantha provides coverage of the European OEM/Distributor landscape, specializing in high-spec capital goods with energy and digital infrastructure use cases. Mid-market infrastructure developers, single/multi family offices and asset owners generally understand the landscape of OEM/Distributor providers in their local market. However, new markets introduce the element of distance and information asymmetries. The challenge for Developers is sourcing OEMs with the right technology, a high level of service and who can bring about tangible operational gains on the asset level.
Similarly, the challenge for new and innovative OEMs is building commercial pipeline within infrastructure markets. The ultimate goal of Akantha is to reduce the commercial frictions for both parties by way of warm introductions. Consideration for these services, at present, involves a success-based % fee for the OEM while the network expands.
